Henry Ketchum

Ketchum chronicled the athletic dominence of the Dragons for 51 years behind the lens of The Purcell Register’s camera. He was chief photographer of the newspaper for many years.

Ketchum traveled far and wide snapping pictures of athletic events and also took hundreds of photos of Purcell students in their daily activities.

He was the shop foreman and head printer at The Register. He also ran the job shop at the newspaper for many, many years.

In addition to photography, Ketchum assisted with the layout and production of the paper and worked under the ownerships of Jim Nance, Tom McCurdy and the Montgomery family.

Ketchum was inducted into the Oklahoma Press Association Half Century Club in 2015.

June 15, 2017 was Henry Ketchum Day in Purcell.
