Recognized by long time PHS track observers as the greatest relay team in Purcell High School Track History.

During the 1958 Class B State Track Meet, this team set a new state record mark for the 880 yard yard relay of (1:29.4) which is almost an average of 22.4 seconds per man per 220 yards. The record was later broken by a relay team from OKC Harding High School

This group of sprinters formed the basis of the outstanding 1958 Purcell High School Track Team.

These same individuals not only ran the 880 yard relay, but the 440 yard Relay, and the Mile Relay

The 1958 PHS Track Team finished as State Runner-Up to Alva at the Class B State Track Meet

Orval McGehee won the 220 yard dash (22.4) at the 1958 Class B State Track Meet

Frank Johnson was the Regional Champion in the 440 yard dash but did not run the event at the 1958 Class B State Track Meet because of illness

The 1958 PHS Track Team was also Class B Regional Team Champions

The 1958 Purcell High School Track Team won a total of 6 meets throughout the year, with an average of only 5 - 6 individuals competing in every meet
